December 15, 2006: Jim McNesby, Department Chair from 1976 to 1982, passed away this week. Jim was an internationally known photochemist who was appointed upon arrival as Acting Chair to lead a deeply fractured Department. Jim was a fine administrator as well as a fine chemist and a great and warm human being. He talked with all the faculty members and listened well. He set ambitious but realistic goals for many aspects of the Department and its programs and reported yearly on our progress. The Department and its programs made great progress on his goals. Jim was granted his tenured professorship and named Chair in 1978. He laid a solid basis for the Department to build on under with subsequent chairs and with many new faculty members.
The memorial service for Jim McNesby is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 13th in the West Chapel
of the Memorial Chapel on campus. |
