The Campaign for the College of Chemical and Life Sciences at the University of Maryland

The College of Chemical and Life Sciences brings together outstanding scientists/educators and students who delve into diverse and fascinating research questions that help us to understand humans and theirenvironment at every level—from atoms and molecules to ecosystems and human behavior. The college is committed to developing the concepts and tools needed to understand and manage issues from environmental change and disease prevention to nanoscience and renewable fuels. 

Some of the advanced research undertaken by the faculty and students in the college includes: 

• Addressing emerging diseases and global pandemics
• Drug and vaccine design
• Development of new fuel technologies to address the energy crisis
• Processing and storage of sensory information by the brain
• Conserving endangered environments and species

The ability of College of Chemical and Life Sciences faculty and research teams to make high-impact, ground-breaking discoveries depends critically on a strong research infrastructure and outstanding undergraduate and graduate training programs. Through the Great Expectations campaign, we seek to generate $40 million to support scholarships, fellowships, and professorships and to develop specialized research facilities. Great Expectations will play a major role in transforming the college from excellence to greatness in research, education, and outreach.
