Pre-registration advising timeline

  • Your registration appointment is the earliest day and time you can register for classes.
  • Your advising appointment is the day and time you set up for your mandatory advising appointment with an advisor prior to registering for classes.

What to do

When to do it

1. Check your registration appointment date and time, and your advisor's name on the UM portal www.my.umd.edu under the Academics and Testudo tab. At least 3 to 4 weeks prior to your registration appointment. (As soon as you get your registration reminder e-mail via LIFELINK.)
2. Make an advising appointment to see your advisor for mandatory advising. The way advising appointments are set up varies by advising unit. Find the appropriate contact information to set up an appointment. Call 3 to 4 weeks prior to your registration appointment so that you can schedule a time to see your advisor 1 to 2 weeks before it.

3. Check for additional registration blocks while on the UM portal.
Immunization blocks must be cleared with the Health Center. Financial blocks must be cleared with the Financial Service Center.
Your academic advisor will take care of mandatory advising, probation and fundamental studies blocks during your advising appointment.

Any time prior to your registration appointment.
4. Visit your advisor. Come with any questions you have and bring your four-year plan. On your advising appointment day and time.
